The second annual C.A.P.E. Foundation, Inc., 5k Hero Run/Walk is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the Branson Airport. Last year, 140 registered participants helped C.A.P.E. Foundation raise money in support of its mission to help abused children receive counseling services. The non-profit corporation is hoping for 250 registered participants in 2012.

“This is our only annual fundraiser,” says C.A.P.E. Foundation, Inc., founder Jeff Merrell, “so we would like to make it as large and as successful an event as we can.” The event is unique to Southwest Missouri, in that the entire 3.1 mile course is on the runway of the Branson Airport. “It is a very flat, very fast 5k course,” says Merrell. “This is a great race for first-timers, or for runners looking to establish new personal records.”

Participants may pre-register through the C.A.P.E. Foundation, Inc., website at capefoundationinc.org, or through Ozark Mountain Ridge Runners at omrr.org. Race day registration opens at 7:00 a.m. at the Branson Airport, with the race beginning at 8:00 a.m. “Several participants dressed in costume as superheroes for the 2011, inaugural event,” says Merrell. “That helped to make the atmosphere festive, and a lot of fun.”
