Taney County Prosecuting Attorney, Jeffrey M. Merrell announced today that Curtis Goodwin, dob: 8/25/81, of Sparta, Missouri, was sentenced last week to five (5) years in prison for the offense of tampering in the first degree. Curtis Goodwin, was found guilty last July in a bench trial in front of Taney County Circuit Judge Mark Orr. Andrea Carnes of Sparta, Missouri, reported her Dodge Ram pickup stolen on January 9th, 2005. On January 13th, 2005, law enforcement officials with the Taney County Sheriff’s Department made contact with Curtis Goodwin and recovered the stolen vehicle from a trailer he was staying at in Cedar Creek, Missouri. Curtis Goodwin was developed as a suspect during an investigation into a related vehicle theft. The recovered truck had sustained substantial substantial damage. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Rachel Beeton was satisfied with the result stating, “hopefully this will bring a sense of satisfaction to a victim who spent her life savings on this truck that was stolen only a short time later and damaged.”
