ALFRED E. SHEPARD, d/o/b 12-16-1969, of Ridgedale, Missouri, pled guilty in the Circuit Court of Taney County Thursday, June 20, 2013, to the felony of failure to register as a sex offender. Taney County Circuit Court Judge Mark Orr sentenced Shepard to three (3) years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, pursuant to a plea agreement between Shepard and the Taney County Prosecutor’s Office.
Deputy Carl Pride of the Taney County Sheriff’s Office investigated Shepard’s residency in late-April of 2013, in an effort to confirm that Shepard was living at the addresss on his latest required sex offender registration documents, being kept on file with the Sheriff’s Office. On April 27, 2013, Deputy Pride discovered that the residents at the address Shepard had given the Sheriff’s Office were not Shepard, and that he had not lived there for about two (2) months. Almost immediately, Shepard was found and arrested by Deputy Pride for failing to register his proper address. Shepard was required to register as the result of a rape conviction in Taney County in 1998.
Failure to register as a sex offender is a class D felony, which carries a maximum sentence of four (4) years in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000.00.
